Mina Kordali exhibits «Odyssey 2016» at Patmos Aktis Suites and Spa, at Grikos Bay,from the 16th of August to the 15th of September.
She started her studies in Paris at the École Nationale Supérieure des Beaux-Arts ENSBA under Frédéric Prat and James Blœdé. She graduated Athens School of Fine Arts in 2008, where she studied Painting under Chronis Botsoglou, Photography under Manolis Baboussis, Scenography under Christos Palamides and Mask under Vassiliki Psarrou. Her work has been presented in numerous solo and group exhibitions in Greece and abroad. The way she describes her approach to «Odyssey», the streams of light, of colors ,of emotions, translating at the same time the «on - off transformations» of neon figures on her paintings, is the best introduction to her work.
«Each trip into the world is a trip into ourselves. Sometimes we are exposed to the vastness that blends the lighter blue of the sky to the deeper blue of the sea, and at other times our gaze is cut off by a sharp rising or the curved thread of the horizon.
This magical, metaphysical, and yet entirely natural world that surrounds us completely, and yet is always within us, is formed by union and conflict, by serenity and explosion, by similarity and contrast. Colours take on the weight of an emotion; shapes take on the magnitude of ideas, and forms, sometimes obvious, and other times hidden, imperceptibly carve out paths for the course of the slightest movement of the mind. Opening to the future…
And, truly, the depth of conception is an abyss: its scope and magnitude unseen, until now. The smallest of movements turns into momentum. The superlative idea transformed into shape and color. The bright turbulence of tone and shade flirts playfully with a cool and collected monochrome.
Inside this universal cosmogony emerge, like islands or harbors, on this endless journey, shapes – bodies - at rest or in motion. The human presence in its environment is confronted - sometimes as creator and other times as creation. Sometimes it is assimilated in the subtle qualities that surround it, and other times it cuts through time and space.
Destination dives invisibly into the depths of the ocean, is glorified in its ascent, and with the strength of a hand that creates a world that cannot be explained, takes on heavenly shape, displayed in an otherworldly light, in a kaleidoscopic pandemonium of colour.
And it is then that an ever-lustful Ithaca begins to emerge. Not destination, but confrontation; not boundaries but measure. Love and desire bound to a sea-journey. This voyage to the farthest depths and then, again».
