Patmos Aktis Suites & Spa will be hosting an exceptional exhibition «Sculptures & treasures from the sea» of Paula Swinnen, an internationally renowned artist from Belgium, organized by the cultural and music association «Patmos of Colors».
The exhibits will be scattered in the premises of Patmos Aktis Suites & Spa from Friday, 17th of July 2015 until Monday, 31st of August 2015.
Paula Swinnen started studying drawing at the age of 14 at the Brussels Fine Arts Academy in Brussels while taking evening classes at the Académie d'Ixelles. A self-taught explorer of sculpture, she started venturing into the world of sculpture by using the lost-wax casting technique. A full-fledged animal sculptor for twenty-two years now, Paula Swinnen masters every stage of the creation process, from casting to developing patina. Rather than representing animals as they are, she shapes her pieces by transcribing their personality into their natural movements, and this she does mostly with wild animals. Paula's work gives a very realistic interpretation of the fauna, in which one feels the forceful expression of wildlife and of nature's pulse. She began sculpting apes and a few orangutans; then a mountain gorilla for the WWF. Over the past few years she has also created pieces of furniture as well as custom-made coffee tables and consoles that are an ode to nature. Paula is intent on creating her own bestiary, which is an unrelenting source of inspiration. For more information regarding Paula Swinnen, please visit: http://paulaswinnen.com.
On Friday, July 17th 2015, do not miss the grand opening of the exhibition, followed by a cocktail «White Party», from 18:00 to 22:00.
